Overview

This document explains the Storage Management in RedSky and the steps and processes to be followed. The overall goal of Storage Management functionality in RedSky is to manage the storage locations for each warehouse.

Below steps are involved in order to view/ manage the Storage Management in RedSky.

  1. Defining Storage Location Grid

Before this functionality can be used properly a company needs to define a warehouse location grid - - this grid needs to uniquely identify each space which will be used for storage, primarily permanent storage spaces.   There’s no rule for defining storage locations, other than overflow areas, they should be able to identify each location uniquely.  Here’s a guideline for defining a location (this is just an advisory guideline, you can use any existing taxonomy which identifies your locations uniquely).

You may want to consider storage types e.g. pallets, vaults, rug storage, container storage, auto, etc.

  • Use 1st 2 characters for warehouse code

  • Optionally use next 2 characters for warehouse area (particularly for very large warehouses)

  • Use a code for storage type e.g. rug, pallet, vault, etc.

  • Use a 3 or 4 digit code for a unique location.

Using the above you may end up with taxonomy as follows -- W10CV0023 to define in Warehouse (W1) sub-area (C) a vault (V) with number 23. Some smaller warehouses maybe have a location W2R0005 to define 5th rug storage in warehouse W2. In summary, any location scheme which allows you to identify permanent storage locations will suffice.

  1. Addition /Modification / Deletion of Storage locations in Location Library

Local Operations -> Location Library: Manage the master list of locations for each warehouse for different types of storage, e.g. pallets, containers, sofa, rugs, vaults, etc.

  • User can Add the Location via 'Add' Button

        Explanations of fields

  • Location: Name of Storage Location

  • Warehouse: In which warehouse, the particular location exists

  • Holding Capacity: Shows the holding capacity of location i.e. 1 on 1, N on 1

  • Type: tells about location type i.e. Pallets, Racks, Auto Storage, Cold Storage, etc.

  • Users can view the list of added Locations under the 'Location List' Tab

  • Users can do modifications to the existing Location via clicking on the Location link

present in the first column of each location entry.

  •  Users can delete the existing Location via clicking on Remove Icon present in the last column

 of each location entry.

  1. Adding Storage item in a location

Storage activities can be performed through Work Tickets? Whse/ Mgmt tab.

When clicked on Whse/ Mgmt tab, it will take the user on the displaying already added items to storage locations:

Warehouse and ticket numbers will be auto-populated from the work ticket form itself

Add storgae :

Storage can be added for work tickets from the ‘Add Item to location’ tab, which will show the Location list from the Location library.

Users can select the Location radio button and can ‘Add’.

Upon selecting ‘Add’, the user can provide the additional details viz ContainerID, Model #, SeriaL#, Weight, Volume, etc. Recently added storage items will be shown on the storage list page.

  1. Moving Storage items in a location

Storage Location can be Moved/Accessed or Released. To move the Storage Location, the user can select the location and click Move. When clicking the move button, the user will be taken to a new interface showing the available locations.

Storage items will be moved to the new storage location and will show the item with the new location and old location on the list page along with the action performed under the work column.

Upon moving the storage location, Old Location will be marked as the unoccupied and the new location will be assigned and marked as occupied.

  1. Access/Release Storage item in a location

Storage items can be accessed or released from Access/Release Item tab using the Access Release buttons.

When the storage location is released, the available storage volume in the storage library will be increased by the amount of volume used by the released Storage Location.

Upon releasing the storage location,  Occupied volume will be reduced to zero, Location will be marked as unoccupied, and storage assigned to False.

  1. Trace Storage

Local Operations -> Trace Storage:  Search the details for a particular storage location on the basis of SO number, Location, Ticket No, First Name, Last Name, tag, description.

  1. Extracts

Mgmt. Information: The menu allows users to run data extracts and run forms and reports to provide decision and analytical support to users. The extract functionality of the system is very powerful as it extracts data to Excel directly and supports managers familiar with Excel functions such as filters, pivots, grouping, etc. This is very powerful.

Storage Extract:  To extract to storage information into Excel.

Storage Location Extract:  to extract a list of Storage locations including occupied information.
